In 2018, Rwanda became the third country to start up a Stay Alliance.
Our chosen name Kwigira means “self-reliance“ in our local language Kinyarwanda. This name fits very well our vision of an Alliance that supports, nurtures and promotes self-reliance as a general belief that the solutions to the problems come from within our community. We believe that together as a network we can reach more communities than each of us working individually.
Kwigira brings together 21 committed and devoted local NGOs and social entrepreneurs who are driven by the need to eradicate poverty in their communities. Like the other Alliances, our NGOs and social entrepreneurs are active in the fields of education, health and income generation. By coming together, we create a platform through which each member benefits from the skills, knowledge and solidarity that all the other members can provide. Thus, each member brings on board a unique set of experiences that can result in a social-economic transformation of our communities in Rwanda.
As a network, we are in closely connected with the other Alliances in Kenya and Uganda. This cross-border knowledge exchange counts as one of the network’s big strengths.
